Subaru Ascent vs the Competition

Subaru made their name by making some of the most rugged, reliable models on the market. Your Subaru can handle anything you throw at it, whether you're getting groceries downtown or taking to the trails for a hike. The Subaru Ascent is the latest edition to the Subaru family; a three-row SUV, capable of seating seven or eight depending on the configuration. While the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander may be more established, the Subaru Ascent blows them out of the water. Here are just a few reasons why:

Subaru Ascent vs the Honda Pilot

  • The 2019 Subaru Ascent gets 277 pound-feet of torque from its engine. The 2018 Honda Pilot only gets 263 pound-feet of torque.
  • Bottoming out isn't an issue in your 2019 Subaru Ascent, thanks to its impressive 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The 2018 Honda Pilot only has 7.3 inches of ground clearance; you might want to stay on the road if you're driving a Honda Pilot.
  • With its standard symmetrical Subaru all-wheel drive, the 2019 Subaru Ascent gives you extra control when you're out on the road. All-wheel drive costs extra on the 2018 Honda Pilot.
  • The standard trim level of the 2019 Subaru Ascent comes with a 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. The standard trim level of the 2018 Honda Pilot comes with a 5-inch central display with no touchscreen functionality. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a touchscreen cost extra on the 2018 Honda Pilot.
  • The 2019 Subaru Ascent has 17.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all seats up, and an impressive 86.5 cubic feet with them down. The 2018 Honda Pilot has 16.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all its seats up, and 83.9 cubic feet with them down. Subaru makes it easy for you to carry your cargo wherever you go.
  • The Subaru EyeSight safety suite comes standard on the 2019 Subaru Ascent, which brings adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning with intervention. These features all cost extra on the 2018 Honda Pilot, and are not available on the base trim level. Subaru keeps you and your family safe.
  • The 2019 Subaru Ascent has more front headroom and front legroom than the 2018 Honda Pilot, making it a better choice for taller drivers.

Subaru Ascent vs the Toyota Highlander

  • The 2019 Subaru Ascent draws its power from a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, which gives out 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The 2018 Toyota Highlander has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which only produces 185 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.
  • The 2018 Toyota Highlander has a standard 6.1-inch infotainment screen-smaller than the standard screen on the 2019 Subaru Ascent. No trim level of the 2018 Toyota Highlander offers Android Auto or Apple CarPlay; in fact, they are not available on any Toyota model at all.
  • All-wheel drive costs extra on the 2018 Toyota Highlander. Subaru believes that everyone should be able to enjoy the extra control and capability that all-wheel drive arrives; Toyota disagrees.
  • The 2018 Toyota Highlander has 8 inches of ground clearance. That's more than the 2018 Honda Pilot, but still less than the 2019 Subaru Ascent.
  • The 2018 Toyota Highlander has 13.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity with all its seats up, and 83.7 cubic feet with them down. Not only is that less that the 2019 Subaru Ascent, that's even less than the 2018 Honda Pilot.
  • The 2019 Subaru Ascent has more front headroom and front shoulder room than the 2018 Toyota Highlander.
